AMCHP Announced 2023 Board of Directors Election Results
On Wednesday, July 5, AMCHP announced that its Board of Directors recently elected a new slate of officers and welcomed one new member. These Board members began serving on June 22, 2023. With these changes, AMCHP’s Board of Directors will comprise eighteen members. Transitions, re-elections, and new appointments to the Board include Marcus Allen (President-Elect), Dr. Charmaine S. Mayers (Region II Director), Eden Bezy (Region V Director), Martha Smith (Region VII Director), and Dawn Bailey (Family Representative).

AMCHP’s MCH Innovations Database Now Accepting Submissions on a Rolling Basis!
AMCHP is excited to announce that our MCH Innovations Database will now accept submissions year-round! We are switching from accepting submissions twice a year to year-round to make it easier to share your work with AMCHP. All application materials including submission forms for each practice designation are currently available on AMCHP’s Innovation Hub site on the “Submit a Practice” tab. While submissions will be accepted at any time, they will still be reviewed twice a year in the Spring and Fall.
We understand that organizations have busy, fluid schedules and may not have had the time or capacity to apply with the prior timeline. We hope that this new process serves AMCHP’s effort to reach a wider set of organizations, encourage more community-based organizations and smaller organizations to submit, and provide more flexibility to submit on your own timeline.
AMCHP strongly encourages community-based organizations to submit their practices to the MCH Innovations Database, regardless of whether it’s been evaluated by traditional methods. We strongly believe in the power of community- and practice-defined evidence and seek to promote its use in MCH practice to better center those with lived experience. There is more information on community-defined evidence and AMCHP’s beliefs on our webpage, under the “How AMCHP Thinks About Evidence” tab.
Revamped Title V State Profiles
Reintroducing AMCHP’s Title V State Profiles! These revamped, user-friendly briefs include the latest information on the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant in your state or territory. The Title V MCH Block Grant is the only federal program of its kind dedicated to improving the health of all women, infants, and children in the United States. In fiscal year 2021 (FY21), programs funded by the MCH Block Grant served 92% of pregnant women, 98% of infants, and 58% of children nationwide. AMCHP Annual Conference
Thank you to the more than 1,300 maternal and child health (MCH) leaders and thinkers that joined us in New Orleans or virtually from May 6–9, 2023 for our 2023 AMCHP Annual Conference. Over 1,000 individuals joined us in person and more than 300 virtually, making this event again one of the largest gatherings of MCH professionals in the United States.

Share Our Medicaid Renewal Public Service Announcement (PSA) Videos
For the past several months, AMCHP has been reporting on the current Medicaid renewal process. The Medicaid continuous eligibility provision that was put in place during the pandemic has expired and all 93 million individuals, including children, enrolled in the Medicaid program will need to go through a Medicaid renewal to determine if they are still eligible for the program.
However, according to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, most enrollees are not aware that renewals are happening, and early data show that over 1.6 million people have lost their coverage, this figure includes children. Now more than ever it is important to get the word out to families about the importance of the renewal process.
AMCHP partnered with El Centro, Inc., a Kansas City-based community-based organization (CBO), to develop a series of PSA videos in English and Spanish on Medicaid renewals. These videos are 30 seconds in length and can be downloaded and customized by adding your organization’s logo on the last page before disseminating among your networks.
AMCHP also has a fact sheet and a recent webinar on this topic with more resources in the works. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has a vast array of resources available including communications in multiple languages. July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. The theme this year is Culture, Community, and Connection. Throughout time, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities have carved out systems of support to sustain collective well-being. Community safety for BIPOC must encompass psychological safety. Bebe Moore Campbell was a mental health advocate, author, journalist, & teacher passionate about Black mental health. We encourage you to listen to the Therapy for Black Girls Podcast to learn the history of this observance.
Mental health is an important component of well-being for maternal, child, and adolescent health (MCAH) populations. Read more about our Commitment to Workplace Well-Being as well as AMCHP’s organizational work on mental health and substance use.

AMCHP Leads National Organization Letter to Congress Urging Passage of the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act
Earlier this week, AMCHP led 85 national organizations in a letter to Congressional leadership in support of swiftly passing the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act of 2023 (H.R.3838/S.2415). This legislation would authorize federal funding support for state-based maternal mortality review committees (MMRCs) through 2028. The original Preventing Maternal Deaths Act (P.L.115-344) passed in 2018 is set to expire at the end of this fiscal year; however, Congress can continue funding the program through the annual appropriations process beyond this fiscal year. - Intern, Policy Team: AMCHP is recruiting a policy team intern for the Fall/Winter of 2023. This is a paid part-time position that requires a minimum of 15 hours per week. AMCHP’s internship program is open to currently enrolled students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Individuals who have already graduated are also eligible. Our program is also designed to allow interns to gain practical work experience; provide opportunities for interns to explore their strengths and interests more fully; and provide AMCHP an opportunity to become involved in the preparation of future public health professionals. AMCHP believes that achieving our vision of a skilled, flexible, and diverse workforce starts with investing in the leadership journeys of individuals serving in many different roles and settings. Leadership Lab is a unique opportunity for those affiliated or working with jurisdictional Title V programs (staff, consultants, volunteers) to accelerate their professional development in a way that is framed by the MCH Leadership Competencies and guided by adult learning principles.
Comprised of five (5) unique cohorts that run concurrently from September 2023 through May 2024, Leadership Lab exposes participants to information and resources that are relevant for their current and future roles; encourages the development and continuous revision of individualized leadership plans; challenges participants through collaborative activities and thoughtful discussions; cultivates a peer learning and accountability network; and provides participants with ongoing support from a matched mentor and AMCHP staff.

Deadline Approaching! Stipend Opportunity for Community-Based Organizations
AMCHP has released a new stipend opportunity for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). The purpose of this Request for Applications (RFA) is to pilot a compensation model for CBOs advancing racial justice for birthing people to be equitably engaged as members or collaborators of state or local Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs).
This RFA seeks applications from CBOs to pilot this compensation model. AMCHP recommends that CBOs that partner with MMRCs be compensated at a minimum of $300 per hour for their time. This rate should be reflected irrespective of proposed activities, including preparing for and attending MMRC meetings. The application deadline is July 31.
