Background & Bio

Dr. Charmaine S. Mayers is the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Director at the Virgin Islands Department of Health with a Doctorate Degree in Creative Leadership for Innovation and Change from the University of the Virgin Islands. She has one child, an Electrical Engineer who is currently the Project Director at the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority. Dr. Mayers has worked at the Department of Health since 2011. She began as the Federal Grants Coordinator where she had oversight of several Federal Programs, including MCH. She has been with the MCH Division since 2017. There are currently six federal programs and two clinics under the MCH Division in which she leads. Dr. Mayers has used her creativity to develop health promotion and awareness activities to educate families about the importance of prevention and early intervention. Under her leadership community outreach activities increased immensely. Activities such as the Oral Health Fluoride Varnish Initiative, Diabetes Awareness Walk, Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Gun Violence Rally, and the Children’s Mental Health Summit are some of the initiatives that has occurred under Dr. Mayer’s leadership. The program has gained notoriety for the work that is being done in the community.
