It’s Time to Complete the 2024 AMCHP Membership Assessment

Purpose of the Assessment

The purpose of this assessment is to gather your valuable opinions and feedback about your membership experience with AMCHP and how we’re supporting you. Your input is crucial in helping us understand your needs, preferences, and areas where we can improve.

How Your Feedback Will Be Used

Your responses will directly impact our efforts in several ways:

Improving Member Programs and Services: Your feedback will provide us with the insights needed to enhance our existing programs and services, ensuring they better meet your needs and expectations.
Developing New Initiatives: We’ll use the survey results to identify opportunities for new programs and services that address emerging needs within our membership community.
Measuring Member Satisfaction: Understanding your satisfaction level with AMCHP as a member organization is vital. Your feedback will help us gauge how well we’re meeting your expectations and where we can make improvements.
Communicating Organizational Impact: The survey findings will also be shared with our leadership, staff, funders, and other stakeholders. This information will help us demonstrate the impact of AMCHP’s work and advocate for continued support.

Your participation in this assessment is invaluable, and we genuinely appreciate your time and effort in providing us with your feedback. Together, we can ensure that AMCHP remains a supportive and responsive organization that meets the needs of all our members.

New Pulse Issue Available: Essentials for Moving Data Equity Forward

The latest issue of our Pulse newsletter is now live!

Our March issue was developed by AMCHP’s Epidemiology, Evaluation, and Metrics team. It focuses on the Essentials for Moving Data Equity Forward: partner collaboration; quality data collection and analysis; a comprehensive, inclusive needs assessment process; and effective program evaluations.

It also includes a reflection from our CEO, Terrance E. Moore, that highlights the connection between AMCHP’s strategic plan, AMCHP Future 2027, and our 2024 conference, Partnering with Purpose. It also highlights some of our accomplishments in year 1 of implementing our strategic plan.

AMCHP Annual Conference

Less than one month away from the 2024 AMCHP Annual Conference! Get ready to join us April 13-16 at the Oakland Marriott City Center, in Oakland, California! We will continue to offer content in-person and virtually through our conference platform with the theme Partnering with Purpose. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to our Annual Conference Newsletter to be the first to receive updates and information about the conference, and share the subscribe link with your peers!

Register to Participate In Person by March 22

Over 1,100 maternal and child health leaders and thinkers have already registered to participate in AMCHP 2024!

Are you interested in attending AMCHP 2024 in person? We are nearing capacity for in-person attendees for the conference, so you might want to register to secure your spot now! Registration to participate in person will close on Friday, March 22. After this date, we will only accept registration to participate virtually. Remember that you can register and select the “pay later” option to secure your spot.

Visit our conference platform for more information regarding registration rates, including discounted rates for youth/students, community-based and community-rooted organizations, tribal entities, and family leaders.  As we recognize the need to involve and prioritize diverse leaders in discussions and decisions that affect their communities and families, we invite you to make a financial investment at the end of your registration toward enabling representatives from these groups to attend this year’s conference.

Conference Activities in Honor of Black Maternal Health Week  

Our conference falls during Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) this year. In recognition of this co-occurrence, we have included a series of activities to raise awareness of BMHW, honor Black maternal health leaders and birthing people and families, and provide time, space, and acknowledgment for attendees to participate in virtual events hosted by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA) and partner organizations. 1. Black Maternal Health Track

In-person and virtual attendees are invited to join our sessions and see poster presentations under the Black Maternal Health track.

2. Community-Based/ -Rooted Organizations, Tribal Entities, & Title V Networking Session – On Sunday, April 14, from 12:45-2pm PT, Invite Only.

3. California Coalition for Black Birth Justice Celebration – On Monday, April 15, at 6pm PT, by RSVP Only.

4. Plenary Sessions Celebrating Black Community, families, and Maternal Health Leaders

Transformative Family and Community-Led Partnerships on Monday, April 15, at 8:30pm PT
Partnering with Purpose for Restoration, Healing, and Justice on Tuesday, April 16, at 8pm PT

5. Engage in BMMA’s Black Maternal Health Week Events

In-person participants can engage in BMHW virtual events and activities by BMMA in room OCC 206, which will be available at designated times.

6. Centering Restoration and Wellness at the AMCHP Conference

Rest and wellness are essential to the work of Black Maternal Health leaders and others working in maternal and child health.

Family Tapestry Gallery: Bay Area artists exhibit curated by local artist and historian Luna HighJohn-Bey.
Collective Vision Boarding: Attendees will engage in creating a collective vision board, symbolizing our commitment to maternal and child health and partnering with purpose in room OCC 206.
Quiet Room: Need a break? Take a break. Take a moment to rest or work in the peace and silence of our quiet room located in room OCC 204.

Child Care at AMCHP 2024

Are you interested in attending our conference but uncertain about who would care for your child? We’ve got you covered!

AMCHP is excited to share our partnership with KiddieCorp to offer on-site child care services at the 2024 AMCHP Annual Conference for children ages six months to about five years old. Older children may be accommodated by request.

Child care service will be available for all in-person attendees from Friday, April 12, to Tuesday, April 16, for a fee of $5 per hour per child.

Conference Highlight – Plenary Session 1: “Youth Partnering with Purpose: Movement Towards Liberation”

This youth-designed and youth-led opening plenary session aims to demonstrate the power of youth voice and parenting with purpose, featuring EYE For Prevention Youth Leaders and local Youth Leaders in Oakland. Through this session, we will tap into engaging activities to help participants embody the learning meaningfully while engaging in a call to action. Young people will bless the mic with their poetry, performance, and creative skills to guide us through a transformative opening plenary to plant the seeds of the healing evolution of maternal and child health.  

Plenary Session 1, “Youth Partnering with Purpose: Movement Towards Liberation,” will be held on Sunday, April 14, from 9:30-11:30am PT in the West Hall.

Conference Highlight – Plenary Session 2: “Transformative Family and Community-Led Partnerships”

This plenary will focus on Black Maternal Health through the lenses of disability and Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), Family leadership, and community engagement. Speakers will provide an overview of Black Maternal Health Week and its significance and will be followed by a moderated panel of family and community leaders who partner with purpose to raise awareness of and address the dynamic maternal and child health (MCH) needs of Black families. The panelists will highlight intersectional experiences and challenges, discuss belonging and inclusion in MCH, and provide perspectives on successful initiatives that model transformative family and community-led partnerships. The panel will spend time discussing themes, challenges, and opportunities that are common across their models and answer questions from the audience.

Plenary Session 2, “Transformative Family and Community-Led Partnerships,” will be held on Monday, April 15, from 8:30-10am PT in the West Hall.

Conference Highlight – Plenary Session 3: “Partnering with Purpose for Restoration, Healing, and Justice”

This closing plenary will focus on sharing Elder perspectives on partnering with purpose with a moderated keynote from Ms. Linda Jones. Linda Jones is a renowned birth work leader in the Bay Area with over 30 years of experience as a birth and postpartum doula. She is also a birth journey photographer and serves as the Executive Director for Black Women Birthing Justice and the Director of Community Collaboration with Mothers for Mothers Postpartum Justice. Ms. Jones will impart wisdom to the audience and highlight how partnerships can be restorative, healing, and grounded in social justice. The session will close with a call to action for conference attendees to authentically engage in partnerships across the lifespan, engaging more deeply and intentionally.

Plenary Session 3, “Partnering with Purpose for Restoration, Healing, and Justice,” will be held on Tuesday, April 16, from 8-10am PT in the West Hall.

Save the Date! Webinar: Stewarding Trauma-Informed Workplaces in Public Health

Save the date to join AMCHP’s Workforce and Leadership Development Committee (WLDC) and a panel of public health experts on Monday, April 22, from 3-4pm ET for our webinar “Stewarding Trauma-Informed Workplaces in Public Health.”

WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, is Fully Funded for the Remainder of Fiscal Year 2024

On March 8, Congress averted a partial government shutdown. Until then, the government was operating under a two-tiered continuing resolution. The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Appropriations bill was among the six-bill package that was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Biden. The passed legislation includes a $1 billion increase in WIC funding over Fiscal Year 2023, ensuring that all eligible participants can continue to rely on the essential nutrition assistance and support provided by WIC. AMCHP Policy and Partnerships Town Halls

Thank you to those of you who joined us for our last AMCHP Policy and Partnerships Town Hall in February. You can find the full recordings of past Town Halls on our Government Affairs webpage.   

Town Halls occur on the second Thursday of every month from 2-3pm ET. We will not have a town hall for April due to the AMCHP Annual Conference, but we invite you to register for all future Town Halls, including our next meeting on May 9, at this registration link.

Northwest Native American Research Center for Health Applied Biostatistics and Data Science Training Program

The Northwest Native American Research Center for Health (NW NARCH) at the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board is offering a training program in applied biostatistics and data science. This program is geared toward American Indian and Alaska Native students and professionals who are interested in building their quantitative skills. The training program includes intensive courses offered in person in Portland, Oregon, June 2024 and June 2025; regular virtual seminars throughout the year; and a mentored capstone project on a topic of trainees’ choice, which will be completed over the two-year training period. Travel costs for trainees will be covered by NW NARCH.
