Background & Bio
Laura Powis serves as the Senior Program Manager for Evidence-Based Policy & Practice on AMCHP’s Evidence and Implementation team. She joined AMCHP in June 2020 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she worked with the National MCH Workforce Development Center evaluating the Center’s impact and supporting Title V professionals. Through the Center, she also completed a Title V graduate internship at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to her Title V experience, she has a background in global maternal and child health researching infant and community health in urban and rural communities in India. Ms. Powis has a BS in human develop from Cornell University and an MPH in maternal and child health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a Health Resources and Services Administration trainee in the Maternal and Child Health Center of Excellence. She is a member of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health and recipient of the David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship.
My Current Work
In her role as the Senior Program Manager for Evidence-based Policy & Practice on the Evidence and Implementation team, Laura manages AMCHP’s Innovation Hub, an online platform that provides professionals with evidence-related tools and resources including the MCH Innovations Database, a searchable repository of “what’s working” in the field of MCH that includes practices and policies grounded in evidence. She leads the Cutting-Edge Learning Community technical assistance opportunity, co-leads the development of Innovation Hub’s Evidence-Informed Policy Track, and supports AMCHP’s Global Health Workgroup. She leads the Rebrand Subcommittee of the MCH Innovations Committee and is one of the staff liaisons for the Youth Voice Amplified Committee. She also serves as the Core Manager for the Evidence-Based Decision Making Core at the National MCH Workforce Development Center and supports the Policy Core of the Maternal Health Learning and Innovation Center.
