Background & Bio

Eden Desta, MSPH is a Senior Communications Analyst for the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP). She is a Rice University alumna and has a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Health Education and Health Communication from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is passionate about community engagement and working towards health equity by improving the health outcomes of historically marginalized communities. Her rich Ethiopian background and meaningful work and leadership experiences inspire her to live a life of passion and purpose.

In March 2022, Eden served as one of AMCHP’s Digital Communications Interns at AMCHP for a few months, assisting the team in developing creative content and executing communication campaigns. She also worked abroad with the International Institute for Primary Health Care- Ethiopia (IPCH-E) on the Advocacy & Partnerships team. During this opportunity, she had the chance to engage in collaborative advocacy, and communications work with key partners, including UN agencies and in-country collaborators. As a previous Health Advocate at Legacy Community Health, she has also served to assess patients’ social needs and connect them to community resources that will help them sustain a healthy lifestyle specific to their needs.

My Current Work

Eden supports the Communications team by leading and implementing the strategic communications plan and developing and distributing publications, content, design pieces, and campaigns to promote AMCHP’s initiatives. Eden also supports the management of our social media presence, member-facing newsletter, and podcast production.
