Although mental health challenges are common, many experience negative stereotypes and misconceptions, or “stigma”, particularly when seeking mental health services. This session explores mental health stigma in MCH populations and how appropriate language can destigmatize perceptions surrounding mental health and utilization of mental health services. A panel of speakers representing mental health advocacy organizations, State Title V programs, and families will discuss strategies for using language in programming and public outreach materials to reduce mental health stigma.
