This module will provide state and local maternal and child health (MCH) professionals with the information, skills, and ethical frameworks necessary to understand, implement, and advocate for Community-Rooted Evidence (CRE) in the design, implementation, and/or evaluation of MCH programs. The focus of this module includes honoring community perspectives, respecting community intellectual property, enhancing collaboration between community-based organizations (CBOs) and funders, and ensuring that community-rooted evidence guides decision-making processes.
Course Objectives:
- Define community-rooted evidence (CRE) and explain its significance in creating tailored and effective public health initiatives.
- Describe how CRE can differ from conventionally accepted empirical research evidence, emphasizing the value of community-driven practices.
- Examine historical events and shifts that have impacted the perinatal landscape in the US, including how the historical devaluation of CRE has impacted the healthcare system.
- Understand intellectual property considerations related to community-rooted work and explore strategies to ensure respectful collaboration with community partners.
- Identify practical strategies to uplift CRE, enhance collaboration, and build trust-based partnerships between community-based organizations and funding entities such as Title V.
