My area of expertise is mental health, maternal mortality, and pregnancy intendedness. In addition to this, I feel passionate about access to contraceptives and preventing adverse pregnancy outcomes.

How can we attack those barriers that young men face in order to open up to someone?

The barriers that young people present to receive mental health and impact projects that we can do to help and impact young people, suicide prevention, listening to the voice of young people, the clinical area in trauma, critical care and prevention at the mental health level, inclusive, youth voice matters, community impact projects, screenings.

As an immigrant, I am passionate about health equity for immigrants whether that be in terms of language barriers, citizenship status, or cultural barriers. I do a lot of work surrounding adolescent health and health for those who have been victims/survivors of domestic violence.

I am passionate about diversity equity and inclusion as well as shaping public health for the better.

I am passionate about health equity, health tech and mobile health interventions, health administration, policy work, and trans and queer health.

I am passionate about mental health, food insecurity, and youth violence in maternal and child health because I believe that every individual, regardless of age or circumstance, deserves access to proper healthcare and support systems. These interconnected issues significantly impact the well-being of families and communities, and addressing them effectively can lead to improved outcomes and brighter futures for vulnerable populations. By advocating for comprehensive interventions and policies prioritizing mental wellness, nutrition security, and violence prevention within maternal and child health programs, I hope to create healthier and more resilient communities for generations.

I am passionate about housing as healthcare. No one should die for lack of housing, but as they are, it is our responsibility to end this epidemic. I want to actively invest in the health and well-being of homeless communities and combat unjust legislation.

Shannon is Autistic and Mental Health Advocate with an interest to increase neurodiversity in STEM and improve clinical care and resources for families from underrepresented communities. She is first-generation college student from a low-income family of nine. She has spent her summers doing biomedical research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine, and University of Minnesota Medical School. Shannon has received national awards on the impact of her research towards the pharmaceutical industry and has presented her research at national conferences. Currently, she serves on the Youth of as Self-Advocates (YASA) Committee at Family Voices, Youth Voice Amplified Committee Member at the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), and as a National Consumer Scholar at Camden Health.

Engaging with people with lived experience/community engagement

I am very committed to engaging in work that aims to reduce maternal health disparities in the United States, particularly among mothers of color. Similarly, I am interested in continuing to investigate social exposures that contribute to poor perinatal mental health outcomes like diagnosis of postpartum depression. I am also deeply engaged in understanding and combating infectious diseases.
