Background & Bio

Nikki Dyer (she/they) is the Family Engagement Consultant for the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) unit at the Washington State Department of Health. They are the Washington State Family Delegate and the current Vice Chair for AMCHP’s Family Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Committee. She has nearly 15 years of professional experience in the field of child development, education, and disabilities. Ms. Dyer spent 9 years working directly in the school system in various roles, including as paraprofessional support for special education students and as a classroom teacher. They promote the inclusion of family voice within the CYSHCN program at the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages, and advocate for this engagement across MCH domains. She works with the Family Advisory Council for the CYSHCN unit, partners with the Adolescent Health unit to support their Youth Advisory Council and facilitates a Youth with Special Health Care Needs Subcommittee. They are a sibling to an autistic individual and mother to a 2-year-old with sensory differences, as well as being a late-identified autistic. She has a Master of Education degree, Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature, and is a LEND family discipline alumni through the University of Washington.
