Check out these New Orleans favorites recommended by AMCHP Foodies:

1. Café Du Monde

Café Du Monde is a NOLA favorite coffee shop that needs no introduction. It is located only a short walk (.5 miles) from New Orleans Marriott! You will definitely want to make some room before indulging in their rich and iconic beignets.

“Café Du Monde is the go-to for classic coffee and beignets! A must-visit for sure!” – Mallory Cyr, Program Manager of Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs at AMCHP

“Café Du Monde is one of the few American tourist traps that is in no way a trap and lives up to the hype every single time. It’s also attached to the French Market, which has a ton of vendors.” – Ben Kaufman, Associate Director of Workforce Development and Capacity Building at AMCHP

2. Sucré

Sucré, or French for “sugar” is the perfect place if you are looking for authentic macarons, specialty chocolates, and hand-spun gelato. It is also conveniently located only .2 miles away from the New Orleans Marriott for a quick pick-me-up during the conference.

3. Neyow’s Creole Café

Neyow’s Creole Café is known for its relaxed environment, authentic creole cuisine, and fresh local seafood. This Black-owned business is located 2 miles away from the New Orleans Marriott and is accessible by streetcar!

4. Parkway Bakery and Tavern

Parkway Bakery and Tavern, Neyow’s neighbor in Mid-City New Orleans, is a family-friendly establishment and one of the oldest po’ boy shops ready to serve you a Louisiana classic po’ boy: a stuffed sandwich, usually consisting of roast beef or fried shrimp, on fresh French bread.

5. Johnny’s Po’ Boys

Johnny’s Po’ Boys is another po’ boy favorite, located in the French Quarter, much closer to the New Orleans Marriott (only .3 miles away), and is the oldest family-owned restaurant in New Orleans serving all of your daytime favorites.

6. Ye Olde College Inn

Ye Olde College Inn: This is a casual culinary landmark and a great place to grab dinner and cocktails after a long yet enriching conference experience. It is also located next door to the iconic Rock’n’Bowl which features great activities like music and bowling!

Explore the French Quarter

Explore the French Quarter. This is one of New Orleans’ most historic neighborhoods and home to many of the restaurants listed above. This is also where you can find Bourbon Street, which features popular cuisine and jazz clubs.

“If you go to New Orleans, the French Quarter is a must-see. It’s a lively place filled with live music, street performers, jazz clubs, small businesses, and restaurants. I love that there’s plenty of options to enjoy day and night.”  – Chery Manon Espinal, Communications Manager at AMCHP

Take a Ride on a Streetcar

These are charming and convenient ways to experience the many areas of New Orleans. Four distinct lines, each originating Downtown, will take you through the French Quarter and beyond to places you might not otherwise get to see.
