HOUSING & NUTRITION SECURITY

Current Initiatives

Nutrition and housing security are foundational to the health and well-being of women, children, and families. At AMCHP, we are committed to supporting states, communities, and partners in advancing policies and practices that improve access to nutritious foods and stable housing. Below you’ll find the ongoing initiatives we are leading to support states and local public health leaders in creating healthier environments for women, children, and families.

Current Initiatives

Under a cooperative agreement from the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (HRSA MCHB), AMCHP seeks to build the capacity of public health leaders at the state and local level to effectively use policy approaches related to housing and food security for MCH populations. This three-year project includes:

  • The MCH Policy Ideation to Action (I2A) Learning Collaborative, which provides intensive support and individualized coaching for six cross-sector Title V-led teams to develop housing and/or food security policy initiatives.
  • Development and dissemination of trainings, resources, and technical assistance to assist MCH professionals and their partners in effectively using policy approaches to improve the conditions that impact the health and well-being of MCH populations.
  • The MCH Policy Innovation Subject Matter Expert (SME) Council, which is comprised of more than a dozen cross-sector MCH experts and leaders in, housing, food security, and related areas. The Council includes individuals and partners who offer direct insight related to housing and food security.
