Strengthening Early Childhood Partnerships: A Window of Opportunity
As you wrap up your needs assessment and start planning for the next five years, now is the perfect time to think about how your Title V program can strengthen the earliest foundations of child health. The early years shape lifelong health and learning, and your needs assessment offers a critical opportunity to align priorities with strategies that promote child flourishing, prevent adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), improve school readiness, and ensure all children have the strong start they deserve.
Collaboration is key. Whether you’re looking to connect with Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) programs, Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS) projects, Transforming Pediatrics for Early Childhood (TPEC) sites, community health centers, or other key partners, AMCHP is here to help. We can facilitate introductions to leaders across these initiatives to support shared goals and coordinated strategies for families in your state.
To request a connection or learn more, reach out to Anna Corona Romero at acorona@amchp.org or Maura Leahy at mleahy@amchp.org.

Modern Medicaid Alliance’s Medicaid Week of Action (April 7-11)
Congress is weighing widespread changes to the Medicaid program as part of budget discussions in Washington. Recent proposals would cut up to $880 billion in Medicaid funding, putting millions of Americans at risk of losing their Medicaid benefits and coverage.
To highlight the critical role Medicaid plays in our communities and to urge Congress to reject these unprecedented cuts, the Modern Medicaid Alliance is organizing a Medicaid Week of Action from April 7-11, featuring patient, provider and caregiver voices from across the country. This week is about mobilizing Medicaid supporters nationwide to protect patients and the program. Together, we can send a resounding message to Congress.
If you’re interested in participating in the Week of Action, keep an eye out on the Modern Medicaid Alliance website throughout the week, where the latest resources and updates will be posted, including a recent press release.
You can also stay up to date on the Modern Medicaid Alliance’s socials (X, LinkedIn, Facebook) and use #MedicaidMatters in your own content to engage with the Week of Action.

- Most hospitals (85.9%) have policies to prevent early elective deliveries; and
- The majority of hospitals now offer evidence-based maternity care services such as doulas and lactation consultants.
This data is publicly available for free, by hospital, at the Leapfrog Group’s website. Download the one-pager with actionable steps patients can take to improve maternity care.

New MotherToBaby Fact Sheets, Developed in Partnership with AMCHP
MotherToBaby provides evidence-based information about the risks and benefits of various exposures, including medications, vaccines, chemicals, herbal products, substances, maternal health conditions, and more during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Its no-cost information service is available in English and Spanish to people who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, their family members, health professionals, and the general public via chat, text, phone, and e-mail.
In partnership with AMCHP, MotherToBaby has developed evidence-based fact sheets on rheumatic heart disease, group A strep, and group B strep. New 2022-2023 NSCH Data Sets and Codebooks are Available Now!
Data from the 2023 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) is now available on the Data Research Center for Child and Adolescent Health (DRC) website. Learn how children in your state are doing on more than 400 child health measures, including NOMs, NPMs, and Standardized Measures. Explore more about the newest subgroup additions: an expanded measure of children with special health care needs and a measure on child flourishing.
Also, check out the latest measure, the Whole Child Risk Index. The overall composite measure has separate scores for social health risks, medical health risks, and relational health risks and provides a powerful look at how overlapping risks may be associated with health problems among children.
For more information and resources about the NSCH, such as fast facts, guide to topics and questions, changes across years, survey methodology, survey instruments, and more, please visit the DRC NSCH Overview page. There are also numerous resources available at HRSA MCHB’s NSCH webpage.
The NSCH is a national survey, funded and directed by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (HRSA MCHB), that provides rich data on multiple, intersecting aspects of children’s health and well-being – including physical and mental health, access to and quality of health care, and the child’s family, neighborhood, school, and social context. Request NSCH datasets in SAS, Stata, and SPSS formats with accompanying codebooks on the DRC website.
The DRC is brought to you by the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI). For more information, take a short video tour or contact the CAHMI-DRC team through the Ask Us a Question page.
