The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) was joined by Family Voices and the Association on University Centers on Disabilities in a letter to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Ranking Member Greg Walden (R-Ore.) urging them to address issues of importance to children and youth with special health care needs, including those with disabilities, during upcoming hearings which were recently announced.
The two hearings are set to focus on the implications of the multi-state lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the care of immigrant children who were separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border. The three organizations pointed to the impacts of losing certain protections afforded by the ACA as well as the need to pay special attention to the needs of children with complex health needs and/or disabilities who are being cared for by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement.
