AMCHP Policy Updates

ACMHP Program/ Program Representative: Government Affairs Team | Amani Echols | Past Congressional Briefing Event Notice

AMCHP in cooperation with Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), hosted a briefing on the current state of care for maternal and child health populations with sickle cell disease. The in-person educational congressional briefing was an opportunity for collaboration and engagement with key stakeholders, including members of Congress, and to learn valuable insights and information on sickle cell disease to inform federal, state, and local policy efforts.

Innovation Hub Overview

ACMHP Program/ Program Representative: Evidence & Implementation Team

The MCH Innovations Database is a searchable repository of “what’s working” in the field that includes effective practices, programs, and strategies that are positively impacting MCH populations. Submissions to the database are assessed along a practice continuum and, if accepted, receive a designation of Cutting-Edge, Emerging, Promising, or Best Practice depending on the level of evidence demonstrating the practice’s impact, among other criteria.

Trauma-Informed Workplace Webinar

Applicable Topic/Goal: Strengthen public health capacity and workforce development by increasing availability of culturally appropriate CHAMPions training on maternal health. Integrate trained maternal CHAMPions into community-based education and the health care support network to increase access to support and information about maternal health and well-being for at-risk pregnant women. Conduct research on the efficacy of the maternal CHAMPions intervention on maternal health promotion

Opportunity to learn about various trauma-informed workplace frameworks and discuss practical considerations and steps needed to initiate their adoption.

Community Defined Evidence

This learning module supports and uplifts the development and utilization of MCH evidence that centers people with lived experience. Module objectives are to

  1. Describe how evidence comes in many forms, including the perspectives of people with lived experience
  2. Understand the role of contextual, experiential, and research evidence in establishing the fit of a practice to meet a specific population need
  3. Explain how the development and use of community generated evidence can and should complement other forms of evidence

In December 2023, AMCHP & Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) unveiled a groundbreaking Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Journal Special Issue: Public Health Approaches to Perinatal Substance Use. This MCH Journal special issue serves as a vital resource, presenting 21 open-access articles that delve into the latest research, programs, and policy initiatives surrounding perinatal substance use disorder (SUD).
