July 18, 2022

Guest Speakers:

  • Essence Hairston, Clinical Instructor, Jenna’s Project, UNC Horizons.
  • Rachel, a mom sharing her journey navigating substance use, pregnancy, and incarceration.

In observance of BIPOC Mental Health Month, episode 7 of our MCH Bridges Podcast explores the unique experience of pregnant people navigating substance use disorders and the criminal justice system, given the disproportionate rate of incarceration for mental illness and substance use among people of color.

Tune in to listen to a mom share her journey navigating incarceration while pregnant and recovering from a substance use disorder, and Essence Hairston, UNC Horizons Clinical Instructor, offer her perspective on opportunities for the public health field to better support pregnant people who use substances.
